Poems of Personal Freedom |
THE FALCON A falcon with a broken wing I was kept inside a cage Until The time came when my Master Knew I could learn to fly. With a training tether around my leg, He gently set me out Beneath The sky so high, so open- And I was so afraid. "Spread your wings my little one, For it is in your soul. Fly high! I am here to see you through, To help you should you fall." My mending wings are awkward: I barely leave the ground. Daily Do I leave my perch. I often plummet down. I know someday I'll fly; The heights are calling me. Patience! If I would stay aloft, I can not overdo. My spirit yearns to soar, To continue ever higher- Fearless To sail the wind, feel the sun, Hear the thunder roll. I must fly alone before I can fly with you. Freedom From tethers that now keep me Safe until I learn. 8/2/92 Rosie Ritchison

JOURNEYS
Spread your wings! Come fly with me
Through the Valley of the Sun.
Let's set our sights on the mountain tops,
For our Journeys have just begun!
We'll soar the winds of freedom,
Letting our spirits lead the way.
Tomorrow is not a problem
If we are living in today!
We'll continue flying upward,
Taking shelter when we must.
I'll lean on you; you'll lean on me.
Friend, you have earned my trust!
When we reach those shining peaks,
We'll fly circles in the sun.
Then, let's take a little rest,
For our Journeys have just Begun!
for my friend, B.
on the road to recovery
