  Poems About Friends

      Just for Today

You floated through my mind today
Like driftwood on the sea
As I contemplated what it meant
That I should simply "Be,"
Not looking back with longing
At things that once had been
Nor projecting toward the future
To things as yet unseen.

Just live in my "today,"
Rejoice in what it brings.
Take hold of all the wonders,
Don't look for hidden strings.
No matter what the length of time
I thank my God above
For having you in my life today,
That I might share some love.

Letter To A Friend

Good friends are hard to find these days
As people come and go.
Just how much you mean to me,
Well, I'm not sure that you know.

We often leave unsaid the things
We really want to say.
Here's a verse for you, my Friend,
For this, and every day.

I love to see your eyes
With their twinkle and their shine.
Add to that your smile-
How it lingers in my mind.

Thank you for your laughter
That cheers me when I'm blue
For ears that always listen
To all my problems, too.

No matter how life changes
As the years keep on their pace,
There always will be memories
That time can not erase.

I lost one friend I never told
How very much I cared.
And so, for you, Dear Friend, please know
I always will be there.

2/14/86
In loving memory of my best friend,
Mike Chambers, who died in a motorcycle crash
May 20, 1981

Joe and Ray and Me

We've dreamed in the sunshine and laughed in the rain.

We've sang in the moonlight, and eased each other's pain.

No one will ever know, just how it came to be-

This special, lovely friendship-Joe and Ray and me.

It's hard to find the words to write this tribute to you, Friends.

The feelings deep within my heart make it difficult to begin

To describe with any words, the things I feel within my soul.

I think you feel them, too. If you do, then you must know.

Please don't stop to question why our friendship's come so far.

Just take solace in knowing that we're the kind of friends we are;

Lifting each other when one of us is blue,

Knowing that the love we share runs very deep and true.

This summer has been so special, what did I ever do

Before I had the pleasure of being friends with you?

I look forward to every precious moment we can share

And all the little things you do that tell me that you care.

I wander if you love me as much as I love you?

And will you think about me after the summer's through?

Soon the time will be here, when our company must part,

But, you always will be with me in my mind and in my heart.

I know how great the pain will be when I must say good-bye.

I thank you for the memories. Please forgive me if I cry.

Will you promise to remember the way it used to be...?

The year we laughed away the summer-Joe.... and Ray... and me.
